Mortgage Broker
In a mortgage brokerage capacity, the company traditionally places $1 billion of mortgages each year on commercial and multi-residential real estate. We will underwrite and place loans of $1,000,000 or greater. CMCC also arranges financing on land and on residential and commercial construction projects.
The extensive banking experience of the senior partners is what makes CMCC unique in the marketplace. Our accumulated knowledge of mortgage lending gives us an advantage in structuring and placing complex mortgage facilities. CMCC has ongoing relationships with over 130 lenders from across North America, ranging from major financial institutions to small private lenders, and as a result is able to source the most inexpensive financing available.
Atrium Mortgage Investment Corporation
CMCC is the manager of Atrium Mortgage Investment Corporation (Atrium MIC). Atrium MIC specializes in underwriting 1st and 2nd mortgages which are beyond the lending parameters of institutional lenders. Atrium MIC focuses its activities in major urban centres, with loan sizes ranging from $500,000 to $20 million. For loans greater than $20 million, Atrium MIC will co-lend with other private lenders.
Mezzanine & Equity Financing
CMCC has co-founded a mezzanine and equity fund with Dundee Real Estate Asset Management (DREAM). The fund is called DREAM CMCC Capital Fund. The objective is to provide reliable equity and mezzanine capital to the development community while simultaneously providing our investors with acceptable risk adjusted returns. Our independence allows us the flexibility to structure deals appropriate to each project and to satisfy the needs of our partners.
Mortgage Servicing
Canadian Mortgage Servicing Corporation
(CMSC) is a mortgage servicing company conceived in 2001 and licensed under the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (#11213). In addition to providing comprehensive mortgage administration services for DB MIC, CMSC acts for institutional and private lenders across Canada as well as several US institutional lenders. Loans under administration currently total $600,000,000.
Senior Management
Rob Goodall, MBA
The founder and President of the company, Robert Goodall, was previously the National Managing Partner of the Real Estate Finance Group at Royal Trust, where he was responsible for managing a group of lenders across Canada. The Group had a portfolio of $1.4 billion in commercial and multi-residential real estate loans. Mr. Goodall is licensed under the Financial Services Commission of Ontario as a Mortgage Broker and has arranged over $5.0 billion in mortgages and has over 25 years of lending/broker experience. He is well known and respected by real estate developers/investors as well as the lending community. Mr. Goodall is also a Board Member of the following companies:
- Dundee Reit - a major publicly-traded real estate investment trust
- BILD - formerly the Greater Toronto Home Buildings Association.
- Jump Math - a charity dedicated to helping children succeed at, and enjoy, learning math.
Mr. Goodall is also a former Director of FRPO (association of apartment landlords for Ontario).
Michael Lovett
Michael Lovett joined CMCC as Managing Director on May 24, 2011. Previous to that, Mr. Lovett spent four years as Managing Director, Real Estate Capital with C.A. Bancorp Inc. where he founded, listed on the TSX and managed C.A. Bancorp Realty Finance Inc., a boutique closed-end mutual fund corporation specializing in real estate mezzanine lending. Before that, from 2005 to 2007, Mr. Lovett was President of Commercial Mortgage & Capital, a private commercial mortgage company controlled by Avison Young Commercial Real Estate Inc., which originated and placed commercial real estate loans and mortgages. Mr. Lovett was President and founder of Montrose Mortgage Corporation (Toronto) Ltd. from 2001 to 2005, where he was responsible for opening the Toronto office and originating and structuring commercial real estate loans. Mr. Lovett has also held senior real estate related positions in origination, risk assessment and special loans with CIBC Mortgages Inc. (National Sales Manager), National Trust (VP, Risk Management), and other financial institutions. Mr. Lovett attended Wilfred Laurier University and is a graduate of the Executive Summer Program at the University of Michigan.
Jeffrey D. Sherman, FCA
Jeffrey D. Sherman joined the Manager as Chief Financial Officer on March 15, 2012. He has been chief financial officer of Pure Nickel Inc. since February 2008, is chief financial officer of other public companies, and is a director and chair of the Audit Committee of Trimel Pharmaceuticals Corporation. He is the CEO of Anagram Services which focuses on helping companies optimize operations and governance. Mr. Sherman has lectured and conducted executive development and other programs for many organizations including institutes of chartered accountants across Canada, the Law Society of Upper Canada, was an adjunct professor at York University, and has written many magazine articles on finance and treasury. He has written over 20 books including: Finance and Accounting PolicyPro, Information Technology PolicyPro (guides to governance and internal control, co-published by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants - CICA), and Canadian Treasury Management (Thomson-Reuters/Carswell), and Cash Management Toolkit for Small and Medium Businesses (CICA). Mr. Sherman holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto, an MBA from York University, is a Certified Investment Manager, and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
Bram Rothman
Bram Rothman is a Vice President
who specializes in sourcing and underwriting
private and institutional mortgages. In his 9
years experience with the company, Bram has
arranged over $1 billion of debt. Bram is
licensed under the Financial Services Commission
of Ontario as a Mortgage Agent. Prior to working
for CMCC, Bram worked as an analyst for a major
commercial real estate services company. Bram
holds a Masters of Business Administration
degree with a specialization in Real Property
Development from the Schulich School of Business
(York University).
Richard Munroe
Richard Munroe is an Assistant Vice President
primarily responsible for originating and placing mortgage debt.
Since joining CMCC in 2006, Richard has placed in excess of
$600 million in term, construction and mezzanine financing
across a variety of asset types including CMHC-Insured apartments,
retail, office, industrial, and hospitality. In addition to sourcing
and placing new mortgage debt, Richard is also responsible for
overseeing construction advances against CMHC-Insured development
loans on behalf of CMSC'sinstitutional investors. Richard is
licensed under the Financial Services Commission of Ontario
as a Mortgage Agent.
